Bio

Taiga Chiba is an artist whose work takes on a variety of forms, including printmaking, fabric arts, sculpture, and dance. He was born in Shizuoka, Japan and studied Studio Arts at Musashino Art University in Tokyo. After 6 and a half years of teaching Art in high schools in Shizuoka Prefecture, he immigrated to Canada in 1981.

Upon receiving M.F.A. from Concordia University in Montreal, he moved to Vancouver in 1987.

Since then, he has taught Studio Arts and Printmaking for Nunavut Arctic College in Iqaluit, Baker Lake and Pangnirtung, Nunavut.

He has also participated in International Artist Residencies and Exhibitions in Mexico, India, Thailand, Utah, USA, St. John`s, NFL, Brazil, Columbia, and Myanmar.

Being in foreign lands gives him a chance to observe himself and to create new territories in art from the limited findings. He plans to continue this traveling and art-making combined projects.
