Bio

The Sansei Choir was a group formed at Toronto’s Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) in 1964 by Harry Kumano. The choir originally contained children from the ages of 5-12, and was formed from a desire to provide a social outlet for young Sansei in Toronto.

They performed at most events at the JCCC, and some very prestigious events such as Expo 67, the visit of Prince and Princess Mikasa from Japan, and at the CNE Grandstand in 1973, where they were seen by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip of England. Some of their former members gave a reunion performance for the JCCC’s Nostalgia Night in 2013.
