Bio

Kayo Jane Miki is a violinist. Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, she began her violin studies at age nine. As a high school student she earned her diploma from the Interlochen Arts Academy and then completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Violin Performance from the Eastman School of Music. She has participated in the Salzburg Music Festival, Holtzhauser Musiktage Festspiele, Heidelberger Schlossfestspiele, Sapporo Pacific Music Festival, Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society Festival, San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival and Banff Festival of the Arts.

Since living in the Bay Area, she has performed with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, New Century Chamber Orchestra, Santa Fe Pro Musica, Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, Skywalker Symphony Orchestra and has been Grammy nominated twice as a member of Quartet San Francisco for Latigo (2006) and Whirled Chamber Music (2007). During her time with QSF, she was a Guest Artist-in-Residence at Mills College during the 2004-2005 Academic year and a Grand Tango Instrumental Musical Prize winner held at the Consulate General of Argentina in NYC. She was formerly managed by Joanne Rile Artists Management during her time in QSF and performed concerts throughout Europe, Japan, South America, Canada and USA. She has appeared in concert with Stevie Wonder, Barbra Streisand, Joni Mitchell, Mary J. Blige, Bjork, Andrea Bocelli, Diana Krall and recorded for Sundance Film Festival, SONY, HBO, National Geographic, motion pictures and video games.

She’s performed in Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Baz Luhrmann’s La Bohème, The Book of Mormon, The King and I, and currently, playing a run of a pre-Broadway production of Roman Holiday in S.F. Her violin teachers include William Preucil, Charles Castleman and Dénes Zsigmondy. Her motto: ‘Cherish the music as it continues to breathe life and love into one’s soul’
