Bio

Yukari Ochiai is a Montreal-based painter and graphic artist who exhibits extensively around the world. Born in Yokohama, Japan, she attended a School of Fine Arts, ‘Joshi Bijutsu’, in Tokyo, receiving her diploma in 1960. After exhibiting as an artist in Tokyo and teaching fine arts at a girls’ high school, Ochiai travelled to Russia to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leningrad from 1967-1969, after which she immigrated to Canada.

In the 1970s, she was an active member of ‘Røde Mor’ art group in Denmark, and also travelled extensively in Asia and Africa, which inspired multiple exhibitions in the 1980s. She also did drawings for films of the National Film Board of Canada from 1974-1993. Her paintings, drawings, and linocuts have been exhibited in Japan, Poland, Germany, Romania, Cuba, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Spain, Israel, France, and Canada, and are in prominent collections in Denmark, Spain, and Japan.
