Jennifer Aoki (she/her) is a Japanese Canadian performance and emerging choreographer based in Vancouver, British Columbia, the unceded territories of the Squamish, Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. She is inspired by the infinite possibilities of human movement, and she strives to build meaningful connections through her creative work. Her work celebrates the intersectionality of her identities and is influenced by ongoing research into heritage and exploration of the world through visceral expressive dance.
Her work has been presented at Dancing on the Edge, Nah Dran (Berlin), 12 Minutes Max (Seattle), Vines Arts Festival, Fringe Festivals (Calgary and Winnipeg). Jennifer was selected to participate as an artist in residence at Dance West’s Re-centering/ Margins 2021 and Dance Victoria 2022. She is Artistic Co-Director of Voirelia and the Body Orchestra and holds a degree in Dance from Simon Fraser University.
